Every Month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month for Red Daisy
Red Daisy™ is a labor of love for founder Phylise Sands. She conceived the brand as a new standard in sports bras that satisfies the active woman’s fashion taste as well as her need for support and performance. Phylise’s wish is for Red Daisy to inspire women to achieve their best in whatever they do. Providing inspiration and support for women living with breast cancer is of utmost importance to Phylise. In 2005, breast cancer touched the lives of her mother and sister. Her mother’s cancer was detected early and treated successfully while her sister continues to receive treatment. Knowing firsthand the emotional toll breast cancer takes on families, Phylise vowed to make a difference in the lives of others who have experienced what her family has. To this end, she has committed 10% from every Red Daisy sports bra sold in the color red, year-round, to support the mission of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® to fund innovative clinical and translational research worldwide, and increase public awareness about good breast health.
Since early detection is the best prevention, all Red Daisy garments carry a charm with the brand’s distinctive daisy petals to remind women to get an annual mammogram and an annual breast exam.
Remember the American Cancer Society’s tips for good breast health:
Current research findings suggest that physical activity, a healthy diet, and a healthy weight can help reduce the risk of getting breast cancer for the first time or having a breast cancer come back.
• All women 40 and over should get an annual mammogram and an annual clinical breast exam.
• Women 20-39 should have a clinical breast exam, preferably at least every three years.
• From age 20, women who choose to do a breast self-exam should receive instruction and have their technique reviewed at the time of their periodic health examination.
• Women at increased risk (e.g., family history, genetic tendency, past breast cancer) should talk with their doctors about the benefits and limitations of starting mammography screening earlier, having additional tests (i.e., breast ultrasound and MRI), or having more frequent exams.
